Watch National Youth Poet Laureate's 'Believer's Hymn Of The Republic'

For it's not just in a declaration of independence
But the everyday declaration of its descendants
That make a people equal.

Three Spring Trends (cool, wearable)

Here’s a curated list of three cool, user-friendly trends we love from Spring 2019 and a little related discussion.

1. Layered Neutrals Tisci’s Burberry re-brand is credited for the easiest, most elegant trend of the season. If you do one thing this spring get a classic trench and layer it over everything. Alternately try a nude statement shoe, a pair of tan-framed sunglasses, a light brown belt…

2. Tie-Dye/Surfer Girl Dig into this iconic, accessible trend by way of tie dye, surfer, or neon tee shirts; a Drug Rug; or a pair of Havianas.

3. Vintage Scarf Prints No longer the exclusive territory of Ladies Who Lunch, 70’s inspired vintage scarf prints showed strongly at Chloe, Etro, and Balenciaga. I think the best way to wear this trend is with actual vintage scarves tied to your handbag, your wrist, in your hair, as a belt…around your neck (!)

Other notable trends crochet, babydoll dresses, platform sandals, 80’s denim, polka dots, anything yellow, biker shorts

Still relevant 90’s styles, bag straps, dad shoes, chokers, utility wear, small, and layered gold jewelry, hoop earrings

TO DO

-Explore the three trends above and find things that fit you and your life. Invest in some key pieces (shop your closet and dry clean/repair things as needed, then shop strategically keeping cost per wear concept in mind). Make yourself wear these things once a week. At least. See how it goes, you stylish minx…

-Pair trends with updated basics

denim high waisted, Levis 501’s, mom jeans, 80’s styles

tee shirts/tanks Hane’s 3-Packs are model off-duty staples for good reason

shoes dad shoes, birkenstocks, sdlides, Havianas, 90’s styles

sunnies: aviators, 90’s styles

Resale's Growing Influence

About two years ago we had this great vintage Dior saddle bag in the Denver store—it was beautiful, iconic, in excellent condition…

We couldn’t give it away.

Fast forward to 2018: Dior reintroduced the saddle bag in response to demand from vintage markets, and end of year reports from Vestaire Collective confirm sales of the bag on their site increased one thousand percent over last year (including vintage).

Let’s discuss.

CONTEXT

According to ThredUp’s 2018 Resale Report the US Resale Market will reach $41 billion in annual sales by 2022, meaning sales will grow 15% per year until then. Which is unheard of.  The industry has responded with more sophisticated, user-friendly stores, sites and apps that appeal to buyers and sellers groomed by Social Media. All of this positions resale to have a significant impact on the larger fashion universe, or to start and impact trends.

THE ROLE  OF STYLE INFLUENCERS

While it’s still typical for models to start a trend (Bella Hadid circa 2017 for the vintage Dior saddle bag), the real work of trend setting is left to professional Style Influencers (modern day It Girls paid for product placement). Last year Dior sent an army of them the re-issued saddle bag with orders to fan the flames of a valuable trend.

IT WORKS IT WORKS!

The dye was cast, the trend set, and sales of the Dior saddle rocketed (see opening segment). Importantly, this drove business to traditional and resale retail outlets; more importantly it marks an era where resale exerts more influence on trends and fashion than ever before.

TO DO:

  1. Think about all of this, it’s super ponderable.

  2. Then shop resale : )
